Terrell Academy wraps up annual youth softball camp

DAWSON, GA – Terrell Academy wrapped up its annual Little League softball camp Thursday morning, which saw kids from first to fifth grade working on how to improve their game.

“One of our goals is  teaching them some fundamentals, but also just to enjoy the game,” Terrell Academy head softball coach Tim Mears said.
Over the course of three hours, the girls worked on hitting drills, playing catch, and also ran the bases.
“These girls have worked hard all week,” Mears said. “They pretty much are running to camp [saying] ‘coach can we do this? Coach can we do this? We want to change this up can we do this with them?’ We gave them leeway to do some of those things and they’re buying into it and that makes it fun.”
Some of the Lady Eagles even volunteered to help the campers improve their skills, hoping to see them again in a few years in their position.
“I really like like getting to know them and showing them like what teamwork actually is,” center fielder Jenna Devara said. “It was like my first team sport that I played. It was a lot to have that many of my friends didn’t same stuff as me so, I really get that.”
