State Superintendent Woods visits Crisp Co. Elementary
(CORDELE, GA) – 4th graders at Crisp County Elementary got a chance to meet State Superintendent, Richard Woods Tuesday afternoon.
For the Superintendent, this was the second day in a row of visiting South Georgia schools with a little bit of a lesson in tow.
“For 4th grade, this is the first year they will study the Declaration of Independence, and the U.S Constitution. So we’re handing out pocket constitutions that have the declaration inside it for all these 4th graders,” says Woods.
It wasn’t just about reaching out to the kids to make a connection though.
Superintendent Woods is checking in with rural schools to make sure they’re holding up well in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He tells us, “First of all, it’s to find out how schools are handling the COVID-19 pandemic, and what preparations they’ve been implementing. How are things going throughout the school year, and what can we do at the state level to support what’s going on down here.”
Regardless, these trips to meet with local students and faculty serve a greater purpose back in Atlanta.
Superintendent Woods tells us, “Here I get to hear how things are going on. It’s information that really helps me when I talk with legislators, members of the state board, and my staff, so that we’re better informed to make the best decisions possible for our students and teachers.”
