CORDELE, GA – Two Miami area men are being held in the Crisp County Detention Center after their Thursday morning arrests for suspected marijuana trafficking.

Crisp County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Haley Little says 31 year old Joseph Costa and 27 year old Robert Munoz were stopped near mile marker 97 just before 8am, after a deputy observed their vehicle was moving at an excessive rate of speed on Interstate 75.

Once stopped, the two men allegedly gave varying accounts as to who owned the car and were unable to provide documentation to the responding officer.

Deputies say a K9 officer was brought to the scene after the passenger refused to allow a search of the vehicle.

Crisp County’s K9 officer Molly provided deputies with a positive alert to potential drugs inside the vehicle.

Once searched, officers say they found a large amount of suspected marijuana and cash.

A preliminary investigation suggests more than 10 pounds of suspected marijuana was confiscated with some $2,000 in cash.

Both men were taken into custody without incident.

In addition to the marijuana trafficking charge, Costa also faces an additional charge of speeding in excess of maximum limits.
