SOUTHWEST GEORGIA COMMUNTIY ACTION COUNCIL HOSTS ANNUAL HEAD START JOB FAIR

Albany, Georgia – The Southwest Georgia Community Action Council provides a wide array of career opportunities for the residents of The Good Life City.
The council recently held its annual Head Start Job Fair, accepting applications for positions at all its locations.
“We’re a private, nonprofit organization that serves a total of 21 counties. Our overall goal in everything that we do, all the services that we provide is to help low-income people climb out of poverty and if we can’t help them climb out of poverty, we at least want to be able to help them cope with their situation until they reach a point where they can climb out of poverty,” says Weldon.
Yolanda Daniels, the Head Start & Early Head Start program director for The Southwest Georgia Community Action Council Inc., details the available positions and the application criteria.
“We’re accepting applications for lead teachers. They are teaching from 3 to 5 years old. we’re looking for assistant teachers also for the head start program. and then we’re looking for early head start caregivers. There are teachers for 0- to 3-year-olds. We’re also looking for bus drivers in the Dougherty County area. We’re looking to start our transportation services up again for next school term. The specific criteria for our teachers, they’re required to have an associate’s degree in early childhood education, but we will pay up to a bachelor’s. For our assistant teachers that are required to have a minimum of CDA or diploma or a TCC in early childhood education and for our bus drivers, if they have a CDL with a P & S endorsement, that would be great. If not, then we also work with training to make sure that they accomplish those credentials and for our early head start caregivers, they’re required to have a CTA in early childhood with the infant toddler specialist,” says Daniels.
The Southwest Georgia Community Action Council, Inc. is committed to providing resources to the region, hosting three job fairs within a month. Scott Smith, human resources director, provides insight into the application process.
“Once we receive the application, we have a couple of ways we can do it. We can do it the old school way with paper applications, which some people are more comfortable with. Some people are more comfortable doing the online application. We do have a computer lab set up here at Mt. Zion head start center, and which is now our multipurpose center. They can go online to Southwest Georgia Community Action Council | (swgacac.com) and apply online using the jobs tab. We print those applications out at our central office. We review them and then based on the criteria, whether or not the person meets the education requirements and has a preferably a background in early childhood, we will select those people for interview and forward them to our center supervisors. We actually have two onsite today that are conducting interviews as we speak. So, if it’s not done today, I will contact those folks in the near future to do an interview,” says Smith.
