DOUGLAS, GA – On Monday, South Georgia State College’s Devon Rainey earned the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association’s Player of the Week for January 5-11.

“It means a lot to me, to be honest, because I really put a lot of work into to me to get better this year,” Rainey said.

Rainey earned the honors after he put up LeBron numbers against East Georgia State College last week, where he finished with 28 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals in the overtime win.

“I’m going to continue to put up great games week after week, keep winning and putting in the same work I’ve been putting.”

The GCAA might have just awarded the sophomore the honors for the first time in his career, but Rainey said he’s been improving since the end of last season.

“Last year, one of my main weaknesses was ball handling,” Rainey said. was I’m trying to be in the gym working on my hand like crazy, [and] I’ve been trying to be a better scorer or better on ball defender [as well]”
