Sewage overflow contained in Albany, no water impact reported

ALBANY, Ga. – City officials say a sewage overflow discovered Wednesday morning has been contained with no impact to drinking water or nearby waterways.

According to the City of Albany, the overflow was found around 10:30 a.m. on March 25 in a wooded area in the 1000 block of Evelyn Avenue.

Officials say the issue was caused by a blockage in a sewer line, which was quickly identified and cleared by city crews.

The sewage remained contained in a low-lying area and did not enter any streams or waterways. Crews are continuing cleanup efforts at the site.

The area affected is described as vacant, with no nearby homes or businesses, and no drinking water systems were impacted.

City officials say crews responded promptly and will continue to monitor the area and take steps to prevent similar issues in the future.
