Salute to Seniors: Baker County K-12 Schools
NEWTON, Ga. – Baker County K-12 Schools’ seniors are a most unique and wonderful class. After missing out on a chunk of the school year, the graduating students get to experience a traditional graduation ceremony Saturday morning.
10 of the 11 graduates are participating in the outdoor ceremony and Principal Boyd Williamson says he’s thankful for the small class.
“They get to bring four people with them of their choosing and we have it all spaced out so there’s no problems with social distancing. That’s the one advantage of being small.”
The class of 2020 missed a number of days of school within the last two years due to Hurricane Michael and the Coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s been a trying two years to have school but thank goodness we have a great group of kids and I hate to see them go,” says Williamson.
Williamson adds that his seniors are ready for what’s in store beyond the walls of the high school.
“I think they’ll be fine, I think they’ll realize how hard it is out there and one thing that all young folks don’t understand is how hard and uncaring this world is in many ways but I think they’ll have a short adjustment period and move on in their life.”
For those who can’t attend the graduation ceremony Saturday at 8 a.m., there will be a live broadcast up on the school’s Facebook page.
Congrats Bears!
