Resident asks for solutions to flooding in Dougherty County

DOUGHERTY COUNTY, Ga. – A frustrated Dougherty County resident that resides here on lovers lane says he’s fed up with the frequent flooding of his home, and he wants solutions.
“It flooded in 1966, 94, 98 and this year in march 2020,” says resident Ned Newcomb.
Newcomb brought his flooding issue to County Commissioners after dealing with the most recent round of flood cleanup.
“I only had two inches of water in my house but whether it’s two inches or two feet, the clean up and everything is the same.”
He’s requesting the commission to initiate four tasks that he believes will fix the problem.
He suggests water from lake Chehaw be released ahead of flooding from farther north, he’s asking Dougherty County Emergency management to have more cohesive communication with Crisp County Power to more effectively release water from their dams, he also wants a flood gauge for Lake Chehaw.
“Number four, I would like a website that would glue all this together so that citizens can quickly go to one site and find information so they don’t have to go to multiple sites or make phone calls.”
Commissioner Russell Gray says having better communication would in fact help Dougherty County residents who experience flooding on Lover’s lane.
“I think this is easily reconciled with some transparency and colaboration between the different organizations involved.”
