Proceed with caution on flooded roadways in Cordele

CORDELE, Ga. – The Cordele Police Captain was seen blocking roadways Wednesday to ensure drivers stay safe due to flooding roadways.
Cordele is reported to have taken in over 3 inches of water in the last 24 hours. A portion of that rain came down in a short amount of time, causing flooding on roadways.
Captain Andrew Roufs says drivers should not attempt to pass through coned roads.
He says, “If you see a cone or barricade in place, that generally means this is not a good spot or it’s deep enough that you’re going to want to avoid it. If you see water on the roadway, and it’s flowing water, you should try to avoid that and go around and find a safer path. We don’t want cars getting stalled, that could put you in a dangerous position.”
Roufs says once the cones are moved to the side, the roadway should be safe to pass though again.
