VIENNA, GA – Dooly County’s girls and boys soccer took on Irwin County on Monday night for a non-region matchup that saw both schools come away with victories.

The girls would match up for the fourth time in school history, with the Lady Bobcats winning the last two. It would look like three in a row too as they held on to a 2-0 lead at the half, but the Lady Indians were a whole new team in the second half as they cut the lead in half just seven minutes in.

It took 17 minutes for the next score, but Irwin County tied it up at 2 at the 16-minute mark, and from there the Indians would not look back.

Lady Indians took the lead two minutes later to go up 3-2, and added insurance with three minutes left in the game to make it 4-2 as that would be the final, snapping their skid to Dooly County.

“The main thing was that we just weren’t first to the ball,” said Lady Indians head soccer coach Robert Brunel. “[Told them to] pick up the intensity, put more pressure on the ball, and then be a little more quicker about our decision-making.”

The Irwin boys could not complete the sweep, however, as Dooly went on a scoring barrage in the first half.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 36-minute mark after Marquavious Burke tapped it in, but the Indians quickly tied it up at the 28-minute mark. The Bobcats retook the lead not even two minutes later after Brandon Felton knocked it in, but the Indians tied it up once again thanks to some help from the Bobcats as it was an own-goal.

Dooly County would not allow that to happen again though as the Bobcats scored three straight times in the rest of the first half, and going on to get the victory as they improve to 8-5-1 on the season.

Both teams will meet again on Thursday in Ocilla for a rematch.
