Phoebe Hospital System announced today that their hospital in Sumter County has experienced a spike in COVID-19 patients.

“Across the system we have 74 patients today, 57 in Albany, 16 in Sumter, and one at worth. Just three to four weeks ago Sumter had zero and has had zero for a number of days so we’re certainly continuing to see the spread across Southwest Georgia. It picked up steam probably since that last week of June,” says Phoebe CEO Scott Steiner.

As patients continue to trickle into the hospital system Phoebe health officials are hoping to expand before flu season is in full swing.
