Phoebe Putney adds more ICU beds

ALBANY, Ga. – Wednesday, across the Phoebe Health System, a total of 685 patients have tested positive for COVID-19.
About 136 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 or are under investigation are being treated at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Last week South Georgia Tv reported that all of Phoebe’s ICU beds were in use but the hospital worked to remedy that situation.
More beds are being made available at Phoebe to help care for the increasing number of critical patients.
Dr. Steven Kitchen, Phoebe chief medical officer, says, “We converted one of our in-patient nursing units into an additional cover ICU at this point. We are going to extraordinary means to try to make sure from a capacity stand point we can meet the needs of this community for ICU beds.”
There will be 50 more ICU beds available for COVID-19 positive patients.
