Petition to recall Deriso becomes reality

Friday morning, petition organizer Trae Sims delivers sponsors to Crisp Elections registrar

CORDELE, GA – Cordele’s controversial city commission chairman Joshua Deriso is now officially targeted for recall.

Friday morning, after the filing of multiple lawsuits, ethics complaints and months of terse words between the chairman, commissioners and the public, petition organizer Trae Sims arrived at the Crisp County Elections Office, armed with the signatures of 126 sponsors, calling for Deriso’s ouster from office.

Crisp County Elections supervisor Becky Kitchens has five days to certify the signatures as accurate and reflective of registered voters.

Sims and recall organizers have thirty days to garner the necessary 1,756 voters to sign the petition, which would demand a recall election.

Sims says he’s confident they’ll attain the threshold, saying it was easier than expected to get the sponsors signatures.
