CORDELE, GA – After 53 years to the day, Crisp Regional Hospital’s longest serving employee is saying goodbye.

It was on September 15, 1968 that Cordele’s Madge Outlaw began working at then Crisp County Hospital.

Outlaw says the hospital’s human resources department didn’t initially catch the proposed retirement date, “the HR people now weren’t here when I came, so they didn’t realize it until I said this is the day,” says Outlaw, in between well wishers both on foot and by vehicle.

Nurse Outlaw’s goodbye is taking a Covid-19 tact, as hospital officials set up an outside “drive-by” area for people to come by and safely say goodbye without fear of contracting the virus.

Visitors came by to honk their horn and say their thanks.

Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock was the first to stop by and say goodbye to the retiring nurse.

Outlaw says she plans to do some volunteering and travel, and maybe some baby-sitting for friends and family.
