One dead, one injured in separate Albany shootings Wednesday

ALBANY, Ga. – Police responded to two separate shootings in Albany on Wednesday, March 25, resulting in one death and one person hospitalized.

Around 8:12 p.m., officers were called to the Royal Inn at 821 W. Highland Avenue following reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found 19-year-old Jontae Harris suffering from a gunshot wound. Harris was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators say the incident began when Harris and another individual, Jerrod Igles, attempted to assault a male. During the altercation, Igles was armed and discharged the firearm, accidentally striking Harris.

Igles was taken into custody without incident and is facing charges including Felony Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm. Authorities say additional charges may be forthcoming.

Later that night, around 11:25 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 600 block of Bobbitt Drive. Upon arrival, they made contact with 23-year-old Vindarius Jackson, who told officers he had shot his father, 40-year-old Vincent Jackson, following an argument.

Vincent Jackson was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and is currently in stable condition. Vindarius Jackson was taken into custody at the scene. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
