Representatives from the Albany Police Department will be in attendance and Warbington encourages the ward’s existing watch groups to attend and those interested in officially creating a new group.

Warbington says neighborhood watch groups help deter crime.

He says, “If somebody’s thinking about committing a crime, if they see one of these signs, there’s a large chance that they’re going to go somewhere else, so I would encourage all neighborhoods to band together to form some of these groups so that everybody will notice ‘hey we have a group formed, we’re organized, we’re vigilant, we’re paying attention and we’re going to report suspicious activity.’”

Warbington says his plan is to go from 5 to 10 or more neighborhood watches in his ward within the next few months. And once a group is officially formed, the city does provide “Neighborhood Watch” signs.
