National Weather Service gives details on Monday morning storms

SOUTHWEST GEORGIA – Severe weather passed through Georgia Monday morning and one tornado has been confirmed to have touched down in the Southwest Georgia region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee.
Irwin county had a tornado touch down briefly near five bridge road.
Kelly Godsey, meteorologist with NWS Tallahassee, says, “So far to this point we’ve only confirmed, in South Georgia, that we’ve had one tornado and it was over in Irwin county. It was relatively short in duration, only on the ground for about five minutes. It was an EF1 tornado with maximum winds of about 90 miles per hour.”
Godsey says that mostly wind damage reports were reported across Southwest Georgia with more significant damage in deep southern states.
