‘Mr. Griffin was like a father to me’ Remembering James Griffin Jr.
(ALBANY, GA) – Many in the City of Albany are mourning the passing of James Griffin Jr. A pillar of the community, and to Funeral Director, Jeffrey Wakefield, someone who saw him as family.
“Mr. Griffin was like a father to me. Mr Griffin taught me how to tie a tie. That’s how close we were. He introduced me to the funeral service association,” that’s the first thing that comes to mind for Wakefield when it comes to the impact of James Griffin Jr.
Griffin’s impact stretched beyond Poteat Funeral Home, the very business he started; he was a man who always wanted to serve his community.
Wakefield tells us, “He worked hard for the community. Tirelessly. He gave to the community and received very little. He worked hard, and served on many many boards. He just, he did a lot.”
While Griffin is no longer with us, his impacts and the trail he blazed for the City of Albany can never be extinguished.
“He’s left a great impact. there will never as i’ve said before, there will never be another James Griffin. he was one of a kind,” says Wakefield.
Griffin’s funeral will be this Friday at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church at 11 A.M.
