Moultrie Downtown Development Authority talks moving forward
(MOULTRIE, GA) – Downtown Moultrie’s streets are bustling again after being shut down in mid- March by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now the Downtown Development Authority is moving forward again with local businesses, many of whom are seeing extra help with the Shop Small Initiative.
“So it’s important to shop small, and when we say that, that basically means shop local, shop in someone’s store who lives locally and support them. The more you can support them, the better they will be and the more they can thrive and survive in the community,” says Development Authority PR Director, Amy Johnson
In addition to local businesses getting support from both the city and the county, other projects that the development authority had started before the pandemic have been silently worked on, including the city’s plans for broadband.
Johnson tells us, “We’ve also continued our work on our many enhancement projects in our downtown. We’ve continued work on our fiber infrastructure project, our downtown welcome center. We’ve opened a new parking lot with major enhancements that eliminated blight, so those projects continued.”
As Moultrie continues to return to normalcy, public events are going to begin returning as well, though the Downtown Development Authority says that they will be different for the time being.
Johnson says, “I think it’s important that when we do start our events back up that people do participate. And you might do it in a different way. Support our downtown, support our businesses, and you’ll be supporting your community.”
