Moultrie-Colquitt Parks and Rec set to break ground on renovations
(MOULTRIE, GA)- In just a couple of weeks, the pools at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Center for the Moultrie-Colquitt Parks and Recreation Department will be gutting parts for the new dive well and splash pad.
The $3.5 million renovations been on the books for just under two years for the department.
MCCPRA Executive Director, Greg Icard says, ”It’s been needed, it’s just that the issue has been getting the funding, and figuring out what the cost would be and also a way to pay for that. Also a way to pay for that, so it took a while to line up all of the money needed for the funding.”
Among these renovations include gutting the original pool that had been a staple of the park for more than 70 years.
As well as a few notable quality of life improvements.
“It’ll also include a splash pad. It’s gonna be a pretty nice addition to the swimming pool here. As well as some additional things we don’t currently have that the citizens will be able to use,” says Icard.
With the department getting set to hopefully break ground in mid-March on the renovations, and after nearly two years of waiting, it’s exciting for the Parks and Rec Department to finally get things moving.
Icard says, ”We’re just super excited to move forward with this project, and making recreation, the premier location in the Southwest region in the state. We’re trying to everything we can to maximize their dollars, and find alternatives for our citizens.”
Icard says that they hope to be finished with the renovations by mid-September.
