MOULTRIE, Ga. — With communities trying to return to a sense of normalcy and declining Coronavirus numbers, the Moultrie-Colquitt Chamber of Commerce is doing their part to help small businesses in the community.

They’re calling the shop small initiative.

“We’re just encouraging people to visit businesses open in Colquitt County. We are open, and we’re encouraging people to get out, shop, and support local businesses. There’s plenty of ways to do that, and many of them are offering online services,” says Chamber President, Tommie-Beth Willis.

Through the initiative, and with the help of local partners, the chamber has been trying to help small business owners get back on their feet after being shut down for more than a month.

In a community where a majority of the businesses are locally owned, it’s important to get people back out to shop small.

She tells us, “We just want to encourage people to get out and shop and support locally. When you do that, we’re supporting our family, our friends, our neighbor, people who we go to church with. So it is important in our community to get out, and shop local and support these businesses.”

As the chamber continues on with the shop small initiative, they’re hoping it’ll also help ease the community back into a sense of normalcy.

Willis says, “It is important to get back out and help us transition back in order to boost our economy.”
