Locals react to fallout of mass shootings
(ALBANY, GA) – With two mass shootings taking place within a week of each other, we asked the public what they feel needs to be done to prevent this from happening.
For some, it’s a matter of better preparation.
“…Better security, or just having more people on watch. I don’t know if this makes sense or not, but have people take classes to identify if someone is about to do something crazy,” says Albany State University Freshman, Nya White.
While fellow Freshman, Quashiai Whimbush says, “Hopefully we can up security, put more security around places like that, rising small businesses. You know, have more security cameras.”
Lee County’s Dorothy Taylor says that the issue is equal parts
She tells us, “It could go either way really. I feel like the people who have the mental problems shouldn’t have the guns, but that goes back to our laws and how they should be changed.”
While Atlanta’s Terrance Thomas believes the next steps should be reaching to those before they have the chance to act out in violence.
“A lot of this is just misguided anger. If they don’t want to deal with this problem early on, it’s just going to get worse,” says Thomas.
While everyone’s point of view may differ, all agree the frequency of these recent mass shootings demands greater action.
The state of Georgia currently does not have a waiting period for purchasing a firearm.
