Local organization giving out supplies to homeless veterans
(ALBANY, GA) – With Veteran’s Day taking place later this week, an Albany-based group got a first time helping hand from Georgia’s Own Credit Union to help homeless veterans in the area.
For 90Works Southwest Georgia Vice President, Rocky Harrison, the partnership is a big step forward for area veterans.
Harrison tells us, “Just having the community partners, the program, and having the va distribute those funds, it really assists a veteran who’s in a homeless situation or pending homeless situation even.”
Throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, 90Works is giving out more than 50 supply baskets to homeless veterans in the area, filled with cleaning supplies.
For Georgia’s Own, helping out with an Albany-based group for the first time spreads the help that’s needed for veterans when they return for good.
“So often we forget that a lot of these people, who are veterans have a tough time transitioning back because of numerous issues. And 90Works has reached to them, they’re homeless, they have financial needs, and we want to be a part of the help,” says Georgia’s Own Southwest Georgia Vice President, Robert Youngblood.
While the supply of donations may seem finite at this time, 90Works is hoping that a partnership like this can help to continue growing trust in the population for veterans struggling, and what a giveaway like this would mean to them.
Harrison tells us, “Sometimes you know, a simple basket that some might think is worth only a few dollars, it’s the staff, and the love, and the time that goes into it to assist these veterans who may be living paycheck to paycheck.”
