(ALBANY, GA) – Dozens of families and senior citizens came out Sunday afternoon as part of Souls to the Polls, an effort to help get more people out for early voting.

“It’s super important, especially in communities where there isn’t bus service on Sunday, and other things, we want to make sure that when people are available and off work that they can come out and make their voice heard,” Says Working Families Party Organizing & Elections Director, Fallon McClure.

For mother of three, Michelle Gore, she was out Sunday to make sure her voice was heard in Dougherty County’s local elections.

And she hopes that many more will get out in the last days of early voting to cast their ballots.

Gore tells us, “We can’t expect change if we don’t go out and vote. You can’t get mad about the regulations if you don’t get out and vote.”

For others, Souls to the Polls matters because they may not normally have the means to make it out and vote.

“Some people really want to vote, but they don’t have the opportunity for transportation perhaps. And just someone to encourage them, and let them know that it’s very, very important that we get out and vote,” says local voter, Lily Hatch.

While there aren’t definitive plans from local groups to give rides to the polls on November 3rd, local groups in and around the state are going to get as many people as they can out to cast their votes.

Georgia 9to5 organizer, Anna Farooqi says, “There is so much that is on the ballot, not just in terms of big presidential races, but statewide races, local races that affect senior citizens, affect families, affect working families, and children. And so it’s important that we get out and vote today.”

Early voting ends on Friday, October 30th.
