Leesburg man selling DVD collection to raise money for cancer treatments

LEESBURG, Ga. – Michael Wienhoff is a 35-year-old Leesburg resident, Dougherty County native, salesmen, lover of movies, a father of five, and right now, he’s in a fight for his life.
“I was diagnosed on September 24th with stage three rectum cancer,” says Wienhoff.
Since being diagnosed, Wienhoff has been in and out of the hospital receiving targeted radiation and chemo therapy five times a week, an exhausting process that he will undergo for the next four months.
“He’s not really the same, like he can’t play basketball anymore,” says one of Weinhoff’s children, 14-year-old Jayden.
Weinhoff’s three youngest children say their dad has changed since being diagnosed with cancer but that they’ve stepped up to help him through this challenge.
“Whenever he calls us to do something we do it for him,” says Jayden’s 12-year-old sister Jayla. “Like if he ever needs any food, or anything that’s on the ground that he can’t pick up because he’s hurting, we’ll pick it up for him,” says Jayden.
At the time of his diagnosis, Weinhoff was uninsured, paying for treatments and medication out-of-pocket. So in an effort to raise money, he’s letting go of some of his most cherished items.
“I was an avid collector of DVD’s and blue-rays and I’m willing to let them go to try to raise money to try to help with my medical expenses.
Community members have rallied together to help Weinhoff through his battle, helping design bracelets, hosting yard sales and setting up a go fund me. Weinhoff says his positive attitude is a direct result of the love he’s received.
“I’ve told everybody and they look at me like I’m crazy, but me getting this cancer has honestly been the best thing that’s happened to me. It’s brought my family closer together, my children, they have a better concept on what’s going on, my relationship with God has been rekindled and I’ve been in good spirits, I’ve been really positive throughout this and it plays a part to all the support that I’ve had.”
