Lee County schools push back first day of classes

LEESBURG, Ga. — The Lee County School System has made the decision to push back the start of the upcoming school year.

The school system announced that they would not start on August 7th as initially planned.

Instead, the start date has been pushed back to Friday, August 14th.

Assistant Superintendent, Kevin Dowling says that the extra week will help to ensure that sanitation measures and ppe requirements at the schools are met.

Dowling says. “With some of the training and the planning that’s going to have to go on with teachers, it just makes sense for us to back up a week and let the planning take place and let that planning work over time, instead of trying to rush through it.”

Lee County School System staff and faculty will still return on their scheduled start dates.
