LCSS outlines plans for 2020-21 school year
(LEESBURG, GA) – The Lee County School System has outlined their plans for the upcoming school year.
With less than a month before the start of the 2020-21 school year, the Lee County School System is the latest in Southwest Georgia to announce their plans for students.
Superintendent Dr. Jason Miller discussed the option of virtual classes for those not comfortable returning yet.
“Right now, we are going to offer parents a choice. They have the opportunity to choose what is best for them and their family,” says Dr Miller.
While the counties schools will be open for in-person classes the board of education will be giving the option for virtual classes for families who feel it isn’t safe to return.
Miller says that in addition to protecting students, there will also be measures in place to help protect staff and faculty as well.
With some students returning to the classrooms for the first time since mid-march, plans are already being put in place for not just making sure that everyone involved is practicing social distancing, but that they’re getting proper protection as well.
“We will be providing personal protective equipment for our teachers and staff when school returns. And we will also have hand sanitizer readily available in our classrooms, schools, buses, and athletic facilities…,” says Dr Miller.
In addition to matters such as virtual learning options and maintaining social distancing at schools, they’re going to be monitoring students and staff from time to time.
Miller says, “We will have health checks, temperature checks periodically. Those will occur to make sure that we identify if someone has a high temperature that we need them to investigate further in order to keep everybody safe.”
As the board of education continues to monitor the situation, they’re hoping they can get to a point where all students can be back in the classroom.
Dr. Miller says teachers will return to set up their new classrooms on July 16th.
