Kentucky man reunited with missing puppy after months at Adel Animal Shelter
ADEL, Ga. – A missing puppy is finally back home after months apart, thanks to the determination of a local animal control officer in Adel.
The City of Adel Animal Shelter celebrated a heartwarming reunion Saturday when a German Shepherd puppy named Kyro was reunited with his owner who drove all the way from Louisville, Kentucky.
According to the City of Adel, Kyro had been staying at the shelter since around Christmas after becoming separated from his owner. The puppy had reportedly escaped from a vehicle, leaving his family searching and unsure where he might have ended up.
But Donalee with the City of Adel Animal Control refused to give up.
While checking lost and missing pet posts on Facebook, Donalee came across a post from Louisville that caught her attention. After reaching out and exchanging photos, she confirmed what she had been hoping — Kyro’s family had been looking for him just as desperately.
On Saturday, Kyro’s owner made the long trip from Kentucky to Adel to bring his puppy home.
Shelter staff say the moment the two were reunited was emotional, filled with wagging tails, smiles, and plenty of happy tears.
City leaders say the reunion is a reminder of why animal control officers and shelter staff work so hard to care for lost pets.
“Our number one goal is always to reunite pets with the families who love them or help them find a forever home,” city officials shared on social media.
Thanks to the persistence of local animal control staff, Kyro’s long wait is finally over and he’s back where he belongs.
While Kyro’s story had a joyful ending, many other animals are still waiting for their own happy reunions or forever homes.
The City of Adel Animal Shelter cares for dogs and cats every day that are looking for loving families. Stories like Kyro’s highlight the importance of checking local shelters if a pet goes missing — and also remind the community that many animals are still hoping someone will come through the door just for them.
Anyone interested in adopting or learning more about the animals currently available can contact the shelter at 229-896-8722 or visit the facility at 204 E. Third Street in Adel.
