Attorneys for the Governor say he's "beyond the reach" of grand jury subpoena

ATLANTA, GA- Attorneys for Governor Brian Kemp are arguing that he should not be forced to testify before a special purpose grand jury investigating the post 2020 presidential election results here in Georgia.

Governor Kemp has been subpoenaed to testify in the investigation being headed by Fulton County District Attorney Fanni Willis.

Thursday, Kemp lawyers argued the Governor should be protected by sovereign immunity, executive privilege as well as attorney-client privileges.

Kemp attorneys also said there are concerns of the investigation interfering with the Governor’s re-election bid.

The judge overseeing the case said he’ll take all arguments under advisement before issuing his decision.

Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney gave no indication as to when he’ll decide the Governor’s motion.

District Attorney Willis’ office says that Governor Kemp is not considered a target in the investigation, but rather a “uniquely knowledgable” witness to testify.
