TICKY SITUATION THIS SUMMER

It’s heating up across the country, which means more time outside. But can unfortunately also mean close encounters – of the tick kind. Experts are encouraging people to take extra precautions to prevent tickborne diseases during the warmer months. Dr. Jean Tsao, a Professor at Michigan State University, says if you find a tick on you remove it as quickly as possible and save it so you can know if you’re at risk for a tickborne disease. “The species, the life stage, all of that can help the healthcare worker if you end up feeling sick,” says Dr. Tsao. Experts say we’re also seeing an uptick in Alpha-gal Syndrome, a tick-borne disease that can cause a red meat allergy among other symptoms. Correspondent Leigh Waldman has all the details, including what viewers need to know about Alpha-gal, in today’s 3pET PKG with FREE custom talkbacks from New York City.
