‘I wanted to do something in my hometown.’: Michael Fowler to host comedy show on Sunday
Fowler says that tickets sold out a week before the show.
ALBANY, Ga. – Here’s a real change, going from the morgue to mirth. It’s sounds ironic but it’s a double-life that Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler knows all too well.
For many people around the Good Life City Fowler is known as the Dougherty County Coroner, but to his congregation it’s Pastor Fowler. That’s the role he will be in on Sunday as he hosts a comedy show here in Albany. He’s not quitting his day job but rather has a well known actor and comedian to grace the stage at the Albany Municipal Auditorium.
“I wanted to do something in my hometown. We have a lot of negativity in Albany, but I want to do something positive in Albany to make people smile, make people think this is a good place to live.” said Fowler.
Just like other events that were put on hold due to COVID-19, so was Fowler’s comedy show.
“We’re having this show because we know Albany has been through something the last 2 or 3 years. We’re trying to bring some laughter, and smiles to their face.” said Fowler.
Fowler’s been on the frontlines of the pandemic and has seen the loss and pain families have felt.
“And I wanted something to put a smile on someone’s face. Because I dealt with a lot of families that have loss loved ones, co-workers, and neighbors and church members. I just wanted to do something different and speaking with him he said ‘man I’ll definitely be glad to come.'” said Fowler.
David Mann, who has been featured in movies and plays with director and screenwriter Tyler Perry has seen the devastation the City of Albany has been put through. Both he and Fowler agree that now “it’s show time.”
“We was gone try to bring him a year ago before COVID hit. Then after COVID hit everything started settling down then we decided to get back in contact with him to go ahead and make the show happen. And then he realized what we been through down here in Albany. He said we been hit hard and he wanted to do something to make people laugh.” said Fowler.
Fowler says that the tickets sold out just a week before the show.
He has had other shows outside of Albany and this is his first time hosting in his hometown but says he is working to have more events in the future.
