High schoolers skip the classroom and head over to Albany Tech for engineering week

ALBANY, Ga. – In recognition of National Engineering Week, Albany Technical College and their Engineering Preparatory Academy are inspiring elementary, middle, and high school students by engaging them in interactive engineering-related activities.

Wednesday, 39 students from Dougherty High School, Monroe High School and Westover High School volunteered to take a day off from regular school work to attend a drone technology workshop hosted by Albany Technical College.

The students were asked to challenge themselves by building a small sized drone themselves or with partners using minimal instructions.

Those that succeeded in putting the mini-lego drone together were encouraged to test them out.

11th grader from Monroe High, Jaydn Sims, says the first hand experience is “amazing.” He says, “It felt amazing to see something I built actually work and operate on its own.”
