Fleeing suspect crashes car, runs on foot, but caught with pounds of suspected marijuana

ALBANY, GA- The Albany Dougherty Drug Unit assisted a Georgia State Patrol Trooper at the intersection of Schley Avenue and Wilmar Lane Monday, in reference to a foot pursuit and possible drugs being located.

When investigators arrived on scene, contact was made with the trooper. He stated that he attempted to conduct a traffic stop on white 2003 Lincoln Aviator, due to the vehicle failing to stop at the red light at the intersection of North Slappey Boulevard and Ledo Road.

The trooper pursued the vehicle for several blocks until the driver, Robert McCray, wrecked out and struck a tree.

McCray exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot. The trooper chases and arrested McCray.

The vehicle was searched due to the strong odor of marijuana coming from the inside.

The following item was seized by the Albany Dougherty Drug Unit after the successful search:

5.43 pounds of Marijuana
The following person was arrested:

Robert McCray – Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Failure to Obey Traffic Control Devices, Removing or Affixing License Plate with Intent to Conceal, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, No Proof of Insurance, Failure to Maintain Lanes, Driving Under the Influence, and Driving While License is Suspended.
