Georgia Southwestern hosts middle/high school women’s soccer camp

AMERICUS, GA – Tuesday morning was the first day of the Georgia Southwestern women’s soccer team camp, which was made for middle and high schools to help players get the college training experience.

“Just add to their technical game by kind of providing some of the fundamentals and principles of possession, and then we try to work with the coaches to add some tactical pieces to it which is what our afternoon sessions are more geared towards,” said Lady Hurricanes head soccer coach Jacob Crawford.

All the schools GSW will host over the next couple of weeks all come from South Georgia, from Colquitt County to Worth County to Crisp County to Lee County and many more.

And although improvement is the goal of these camps, Crawford says one of the most important parts is exposing his program to these athletes so they can hopefully one day play for the Lady Hurricanes.

“It’s hard to recruit so far in advance, but it’s nice to know because I guess regionally where we’re at it’s hard sometimes to know those diamonds in the rough,” Crawford said. “It does kind of start conversations with some players which is nice and it allows them to kind of see our facilities from the inside to where they can make informed decisions of ‘okay well this is a place that I could see myself playing, or maybe I want to explore other options.”
