Georgia Department of Natural Resources warning about phony fishing licenses

(ALBANY, GA) — The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is issuing a warning for anyone looking to renew their fishing license.
The Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division says people have been scammed into giving out sensitive personal information in order to renew their license.
Communications Director, Mark McKinnon is advising that you go through the GNR’s website or to a certified retailer in order to renew your license
As well, GNR is working with those who’ve been scammed to recover their information.
McKinnon tells us over the phone, “There are a lot of retailers who sell fishing licenses and those are legitimate too. But be very careful if it’s not our website. You do not need to purchase your license from there. If it’s not, then someone may be trying to steal your identity.”
If you’ve been scammed into giving your sensitive information out, you can contact the investigative unit of the Department of Natural Resources at 770-918-6408
