GBI arrests Dawson fatal stabbing suspect

59 year old Douglas Bell found dead Sunday from apparent stab wounds

DAWSON, GA – GBI agents have arrested Harold Benton, 63, of Dawson, for felony murder and aggravated assault, in connection to the death of 59 year old Douglas Bell.

On Sunday, April 24, 2022, the Dawson Police Department requested the GBI investigate Bell’s death.

Benton is currently being held at the Terrell County Jail.

Preliminary information indicates that Dawson Police Officers responded to a report of a deceased male in a home at 412 Maple Street, SE, Dawson, GA. Officers found Bell deceased from apparent stab wounds.

An autopsy will be performed on Bell at the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur.
