From Veterans to Turner County: Randall Owens takes over as Lady Titans head basketball coach
Owens comes to Ashburn as 4x Coach of the Year
ASHBURN, GA – Randall Owens will be calling the shots for Turner County’s girls basketball team, replacing former head coach and current Titans athletic director Christopher Raymond, after just one season where the team would finish with a 15-14 record and playoff appearance.
Owens has 22 years of coaching experience under his belt, but his most recent stop was at Veterans High School where he would help the lady Eagles to a Final Four appearance. Now he looks to help the Lady Titans not only get back to the playoffs, but go all the way to the championship, and he said he can’t wait for the opportunity.
“I’m very excited,” Owens said. “Turner county has a long strong history and girls basketball, so I was excited about the opportunity to be able to continue with that legacy. Hopefully we’ll be able to build upon what has already been built in the past, so excitement was the one word that I will use.”
Sounds like they found the right coach for the job, and his resume will agree.
In his coaching career, Owens has 150 wins, multiple region championships, and has been named Coach of the Year four separate times. So how will he translate that success to Turner County?
“I’m very hands-on, very intense,” Owens said. “The style that we’re going to implore requires discipline, but also on the same token we will have a lot of fun. No one likes to lose, but it’s ‘what are you willing to do to prepare to win?'”
He will also prepare the Titans football team to win this year too.
Owens was also named the Special Teams and Running backs coach for Turner, but he said he’s fine with double duty.
“Thankfully, throughout the better part of my 23 year career, I’ve coached both sports on one level in some high schools,” Owens said. “It requires a lot of time and good time management discipline on my part.”
