Free masks for Albany residents, pick ups begin Wednesday

ALBANY, Ga. — In an effort to curb the number of citizens in the City of Albany and Dougherty County with COVID-19, many organizations have partnered together to help #MaskUpAlbany.
“Mask Up Albany” is a grassroots initiative created by city officials to encourage residents to wear masks and slow the spread of COVID-19.
After receiving a generous donation of 25,000 masks from Procter & Gamble, The Hope Center (Sherwood Baptist Church) in partnership with the Lord’s Pantry and Feeding the Valley, started distributing masks. The first distributions, on April 30, 2020, occurred at local nursing homes and the new testing site operated by the National Guard and Augusta University at the Albany Civic Center.
City and county leaders continue to encourage citizens to wear masks in public as businesses start to reopen to the public.
