ALBANY, Ga. – Some areas in downtown Albany are blocked off because of the danger current flood levels pose.

Flint River Flooding

current flood stage

Even though flint river levels began creeping down late last night, the Ray Charles Plaza is inaccessible due to cones and caution tape preventing entry.

Assistant Fire Chief, Rubin Jordan, says as of 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, the flood’s peak was at 25.8 ft., down from 27.65 feet Tuesday around the same time.

Jordan says the current flow is strong and to prevent injury, people shouldn’t get near the river as it continues to receed.

He says, “We want people to adhere to the barricades that are down by the Ray Charles Plaza, the river is going to take it’s time and recede. So let Mother Nature do its job.”

Jordan says the river is projected to be back in it’s banks by Monday Mar. 2.
