Fire Ant Festival returns to Ashburn with patriotic twist for 30th year
ASHBURN, Ga. – A longtime Turner County tradition is back with a patriotic theme as Ashburn prepares to host the 30th annual Fire Ant Festival, also known this year as “Fire Ant Freedom.”
The festival celebrates three decades of hometown pride while also honoring 250 years of American independence, bringing a red, white, and blue flair to this year’s festivities.
Events kick off Thursday, March 26, with the carnival opening at 6 p.m., followed by the main festival celebration on Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28. Carnival rides will run throughout the three-day event, offering entertainment for all ages.
Festivalgoers can expect a packed schedule of family-friendly activities, including a 5K run and one-mile fun run, a classic car show, pet parade, talent show, pickleball tournament, lip sync contest, and a strawberry cook-off. A fireworks show is also planned for Friday night, adding to the weekend’s celebration.
Organizers say the event is designed to bring the community together with live music, food, and plenty of “ant-ics” that have made the festival a staple in Ashburn for the past 30 years.
Families, friends, and visitors are encouraged to come out and be part of the celebration and experience one of South Georgia’s most unique and enduring festivals.
