Everything Will Be Sweeter in Ocilla Saturday

OCILLA, Ga. – There’s a lot more to do this Saturday than just celebrate Halloween this year. Get ready for the 66th Annual Georgia Sweet Potato Festival in Ocilla! The Sweet Potato Festival is always held on the last Saturday in October, and the Ocilla-Irwin Chamber of Commerce has a contest in the summer to establish a slogan each year. This year’s slogan is “United We Stand.”

The festival offers antique farm equipment and a classic car show from 8:00 a.m. until noon. There will be arts and craft vendors selling handmade artwork, jewelry and decorative items, and live music throughout the day.

For kids there will be a mechanical bull and mechanical shark from South Ga Mechanical Rides, face painting, and The Slime Shack!!! Also, Burnfin Farms will be on site with a petting zoo, where youngsters can take pictures and videos with mini cows and donkeys, goats, sheep, mini ponies, chickens, and tortoises.

Hwy 129 becomes the stage for the Georgia Sweet Potato Festival Parade at 11 a.m., with marching bands from area schools and participants from throughout the community. The Miss Georgia Sweet Potato Pageant Queens will ride on the royal float in the parade and be the face of the festival for the year.

The 2026 festival runs from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in Ocilla and admission is free. For more information about the 66th Annual Georgia Sweet Potato Festival, call 229-468-9114 or email tammy@ocillachamber.net.
