Early County’s new bridge opens

Newly built span replaces predecessor erected in 1963

BLAKELY, GA – The new bridge over Little Kolomoki Creek north of Blakely is scheduled to open today once the contractor has finished placing permanent striping.

The old bridge on First Kolomoki Road was built in 1963 and was posted for weight limits. Traffic has been detoured since late April for construction. The contract amount is $1,286,648.24.

The majority of bridges in Georgia are locally owned. Georgia DOT’s Low Impact Bridge Program and Local Bridge Replacement Program helps local governments replace deficient bridges.
