ALBANY, GA- The Marine Corps Logistics Base sent off one of their very own Wednesday morning. Executive Deputy David Clifton is hanging up his uniform for good after serving his country for over four decades.
Wednesday, Clifton was presented with a medal.
“The Secretary of the Navy gives out awards to civilians and so they wrote me up for, really it’s a command award, and they give out to individuals.”
Clifton served at the base as an Executive Deputy working closely to the commanding general.
“I basically run the business, he commands us all. He says this what he wants done, I make it happen.”
Clifton says he joined the Marines for the challenge.
“I picked the Marine Corps because I want to do something hard, and I want to be part of something good,” said Clifton.
Clifton says he plans to get a lot of reading done during retirement.
“I’ve got about seven thousand books I have collected. I plan to read all those,” said Clifton.
Colonel Retired Matthew Crabill will succeed Clifton.
