Dougherty County to distribute over half a million in bonuses to county employees

ALBANY, Ga. – Dougherty County employees have been the backbone of the community throughout this pandemic. From paramedics, officers to clerks and crew, as many residents sheltered at home, these people faced the pandemic head on.
“The employees who have adapted during this unprecedented period to help us continue to provide services to this community during shelter in place orders and all the other changes that we’ve been through,” said County Administrator Michael McCoy.
Dougherty County Commissioners are showing their appreciation for these essential workers by granting every Dougherty County employee, full-time and part-time, an $800 bonus. Just in time for the holidays.
“In light of COVI-19, not having a county picnic and all of that, this is a great effort to let the employees of the county know that this commission has some concern,” said County Commissioner Victor Edwards.
Last Monday, McCoy presented the board of commissioners with three options for potential bonuses. A $600, $700 or $800 dollar option. They unanimously voted in favor of the $800 bonus Monday. Granting roughly 450 county employees the bonuses will cost the county a total of $559,000. A cost commissioners all agreed is well deserved during these unprecedented times.
“We are opting to reward our employees and acknowledge their hard work during a tremendously trying time and we’re prepared to make the financial investment necessary to do that,” said County Commission Chairman Chris Cohilas.
McCoy says the bonuses will be handed out by Dec. 18.
