Dougherty County Police Department reopen 21 year old cold case
(ALBANY, GA) – After more than 20 years, a murder that took place on Sylvester Road is being reopened by the Dougherty County Police Department, thanks to new advancements.
It’s the June 1999 suspicious death of 40 year old, Peter Grant Adams, found dead in his business.
Now investigators are looking back into it with a new perspective, and technology.
“We’re going to go over all of the evidence that has been recovered since the 1999 incident. Doing more background, interviewing more people, and looking at the evidence with some fresh eyes,” said Dougherty Police Lieutenant, Tamiko Whitlock, Tuesday morning.
Dougherty County investigators say that now was the time to reopen a 21 year old investigation with advancements in forensics; Something that Lieutenant Whitlock says could lead to capturing the suspect, decades after the fact.
She said, “There’s been a lot of advancements since then that they didn’t have at that particular time. Even though the gbi played a major role in that case, there’s still some things we can do now like touch dna, among other specific things…”
One thing is for certain though, Dougherty County investigators want to put an end to this case in order to give closure to Adams’ family after more than two decades.
“Hopefully, we will find the suspect, and give this family some closure. They’ve been waiting a lot of years to get answers to the question as to why their loved one was taken so horribly,” said Whitlock.
If you have any information that could help resolve this case, you can call the Dougherty County Police at (229) 430-6600 or Dougherty County Crimestoppers at (229) 436-8477.
