Dougherty County Coroner’s Office gives update to body found

(ALBANY, GA) – The Dougherty County Coroner’s Office is looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of 65 year old, Charlie Flaughter.

Flaughter’s decomposing body was found in the back of this car Wednesday.

Coroner, Michael Fowler speculates the body could have been there for weeks, possibly a month.

He says, “They had been there for a period of time. The body started to decompose. The car owner hadn’t checked the vehicle for a month, and the gentleman was there in the vehicle.”

Fowler tells us despite the relative late discovery of the corpse, foul play seems less likely than natural causes for flaughter’s demise.

“At this time, it didn’t seem like foul play. They’re doing the autopsy at this present time. They should be giving me a preliminary. But everything right now seems kosher, he had an extensive medical history,” says Fowler.

And while an autopsy will confirm cause of death, one question remains: How did Flaughter’s decomposing body go unnoticed for nearly a month?

Fowler tells us,”The car was in the back of the building. This wasn’t one that they were using to sell…Like I said, we’re checking medical records. He’s got an ostensible medical history, and if they don’t find anything else, we can go to the medical history. But right now, we want to rule out any trauma.”

We spoke with the business owners who share this parking lot about the investigation. They’ve declined to comment at this time.
