(ALBANY, GA) — As of Monday, there have been more than 80 deaths in Dougherty County due to complications from the Coronavirus, and for Coroner, Michael Fowler, the pandemic hasn’t been easy in Southwest Georgia.

Fowler tells us, “This is really devastating to our community. So many families have been devastated by this virus and still affected, and some are still suffering from it because may of them are in quarantine or some are testing positive and trying to get through it.”

Fowler says that while a definitive end isn’t in sight for the pandemic, he’s hoping that the virus will reach it’s peak sooner rather than later.

He says, “I mean, i hope we have a reasonable peak. But i’m not positive because people are still dying, they’re still going to the hospital and testing positive. So i hope in another couple of weeks, i hope so.”

But according to Fowler, the only way the Dougherty County populace is going to reach that peak and flatten the curve is if everyone is following the guidelines set out by the CDC.

“I think sometimes, we’ve got to face the truth before you realize it’s serious. Because so many are acting nonchalant, thinking they won’t get infected, but this thing doesn’t target race, gender or age, it’s hitting everyone,” says Fowler

As more cases are confirmed daily, many are hoping the tragedy this pandemic is bringing will come to an end soon.
