Department of Public Health recovers 200 lbs of expired meds

Dph Official Says Covid 19 Cases Are Increasing But Death And Hospitalization Rates Are Decreasing

(ALBANY, GA) – The Georgia Department of Public Health has announced the total amount of prescriptions collected from this weekend’s drug take back.

The Public Health Department announced that they recovered nearly 200 pounds of unused and expired prescriptions from the public.

The event is being labeled as a success by the department and are already planning to hold another take back event in early 2021.

Phyllis Rolle, who was in charge of the take back says they could potentially include additional dates in order to properly take care of unwanted medications.

“We’re not quite sure yet, we’re going to see how the first one goes in the first part of the year. I know we plan to do two more next year, but if need be we get such a great turn out, we might look at making it three instead of two,” says Rolle.

Rolle says he’s also working to have disposable bins across Dougherty County as a quicker means of safely disposing expired drugs.
