Department of Commerce Invests $27 Million in Disaster Supplemental Funding

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is announcing $27 million in Disaster Supplemental funding awards to support economic development projects in five states impacted by storms and natural disasters in 2023 and 2024.
The EDA awards announced today are:
- Hernando, Florida: $13.6 million for infrastructure improvements at the Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport to support job creation in the region.
- Community Action Prosperity Foundation, Inc., Fairview, Oklahoma: $3.9 million for construction of a new facility to support job creation and retention in the aerospace industry.
- Moultrie-Colquitt County Development Authority, Moultrie, Georgia: $3 million for roadway, water, gas, and other critical infrastructure to serve the manufacturing industry.
- Loudon, Tennessee: $2.5 million for sewer infrastructure improvements to support local businesses.
- Johnson City, Tennessee: $2 million for water infrastructure improvements to support the regional manufacturing industry.
- Cleveland Community College, Shelby, North Carolina: $1.7 million to support construction of a healthcare workforce training facility.
“The Economic Development Administration is committed to providing communities with the resources they need to recover from the economic impacts of storms and other natural disasters,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary and Chief Operating Officer Ben Page, performing the nonexclusive duties and functions of the Assistant Secretary.

The EDA Fiscal Year 2025 Disaster Supplemental Grant Program makes approximately $1.5 billion available to support economic recovery activities in areas that received major disaster declarations because of hurricanes, wildfires, severe storms and flooding, tornadoes, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2023 and 2024.
