DCSS suspends student feeding amid COVID-19 concerns

(ALBANY, GA) — The Dougherty County School System announced over the weekend they will be suspending meal delivery.
In a release sent out, the school system says one of their nutrition workers became ill in late March and tested positive for COVID-19 this past weekend.
Employees who have been in contact with the nutrition worker were told to self-quarantine.
Superintendent, Kenneth Dyer said in the release, “…It literally pains me to think that some children might not have nutritious meals during this suspension of services. I must, however, balance the need to provide this service with the need to provide for the safety and well-being of our employees…”
Employees have been told to self-quarantine through April 9th.
The school system could not be reached for further comment.
